Wild threads will probably be the majority of mod threads we get. Here's your comprehensive guide on how to mod them! It may seem like a lot, but once you get the hang of it I think they'll be quite easy for everyone. And please never hesitate to ask me questions on Discord if you're caught up on how to do something or need help with anything. Really guys, I'm very happy and grateful you've taken up a mod-position and I want this to be as enjoyable as it possibly can for you. Not hard and burdensome. Here are some things to remember firstly:
There is a five-encounter cycle to wild threads. This cycle will repeat until the thread is finished. One cycle must be completed before a character is allowed to dig for fossils in the Heart of Amaura.
ROLL FOR LEVEL: Each Wild Board has a level range. Check the level range and input the range into this number generator. Roll and the result is your Pokemon's level. There is a thread stickied at the top of every single Wild board that includes the common Pokemon and their levels. The level should be the first thing rolled, so you know what stage your Pokemon is at.
WHAT POKEMON? To roll for a SPAWN Pokemon, just look at the current Spawns located at the header at the top of the site. Give each one a number and roll. Or you can just decide which Spawn Pokemon you would like to spawn, really. Doesn't matter too much, so long as it makes sense (Donphan probably wouldn't spawn in the Aryth Ocean, if that makes sense). For COMMON Pokemon, you want to use the thread stickied at the top of each Wild board that shows all the Common Pokemon of that board. Count the Pokemon and input a number in the generator and roll. Whatever it lands on is the Pokemon that spawns.
Encounter 5 is the fun one. There is a chance to get a Wishlist Pokemon, a Rare Pokemon, or just a random Pokemon. Roll 1-9 using the number generator. If it lands on 1-4, spawn a random Pokemon. If it lands on 5-8, spawn a wishlist Pokemon (unless the player has no wishlist Pokemon, in that case spawn a random Pokemon). If it lands on 9, spawn a Rare Pokemon!
For WISHLIST Pokemon, you can either choose whatever wishlist Poke you want to spawn based on the area, or roll for them (assigning each one a number). For RANDOM Pokemon, use this spreadsheet (make sure you're on the 'Rando Spawn' tab) and roll 1-890. If it lands on a Pokemon that doesn't make sense (like Slugma probably wouldn't spawn in the Aryth Ocean, for example), just roll again. To roll for RARE Pokemon, use that same spreadsheet but make sure you're on the 'Rare' tab. When using that spreadsheet, make sure to read any sort of additional information that's included in the Note Column.
GENDER: Check the gender ratio and roll using the number generator to decide gender. Same as you would in the Egg Shop.
ABILITY: Roll for ability, same as you would in the Egg Shop. If a Pokemon has 2 abilities, roll 1-2. 1 would be first ability, 2 would be second. If a Pokemon has 1 ability and 1 hidden ability, roll 1-9. 1-8 is the regular ability, 9 is the hidden. If a Pokemon has 2 abilities and 1 hidden ability, roll 1-9. 1-4 is the first ability, 5-8 is the second, 9 is the hidden.
EGG MOVE: Go to the list of Egg Moves and assign each one a number. Roll a dice for that number and the resulting number's corresponding move is the new Pokemon's egg move. Roll for each egg. (It's okay if the move has a base power over 80. Good luck to them!)
FILL OUT THE REST OF THEIR MOVESET: Choose five other moves the Pokemon has based on their level. Unless they're so low-leveled they don't have six. Wild Pokemon won't have TMs.
SHINY ROLL: Each egg gets a chance to be a shiny! Make sure to include a [*roll][*/roll]. If it lands on 100, it's a shiny!
★ Spawn Guide (Wild Threads)
Wild threads will probably be the majority of mod threads we get. Here's your comprehensive guide on how to mod them! It may seem like a lot, but once you get the hang of it I think they'll be quite easy for everyone. And please never hesitate to ask me questions on Discord if you're caught up on how to do something or need help with anything. Really guys, I'm very happy and grateful you've taken up a mod-position and I want this to be as enjoyable as it possibly can for you. Not hard and burdensome. Here are some things to remember firstly:
- When you first reply to the mod thread, make sure you ask if the player would like to use either Min or Max damage on the damage calculator.
- Make sure the player is keeping up with their battle stats. And posting at least 100 words. If they fail to do that, you can either give them a warning or post and say they need to amend their thread before continuing. Also make sure they post their entire party and its movesets at the beginning of the Wild thread as well as any items/medicine they have. Pokemon who are captured in Wild threads can be added to the party mid-thread, but items bought in the shop can not be used unless they were stated in the beginning post. Players are given 5 Oran Berries and 5 Pokeballs in the beginning thread by default. These do not have to be stated, but make sure to keep up with how many they've used.
- When you post the wild Pokemon, you can present the option for the member to fight, flee, or befriend. Or you can post as an aggressive Pokemon and attack first. Up to you. If a member tries to befriend, I will usually include a roll to decide how it goes. For example, if the player tried to give the Pokemon a berry? I would post a dice roll, if it landed 1-25, Pokemon accepts berry and eats it eagerly; if it lands on 26-50, Pokemon hesitantly takes berry and scampers to nearby bush to eat it secretly while eyeing you uncertainly; if it lands on 51-75, the Pokemon hates those berries! It takes it from your hands and throws it at your face while chittering angrily!; if it lands on 76-100, the Pokemon is offended! It can feed itself, thank you very much! Uses TACKLE!
But you are the mod and each mod can have their own style on how to deal with things. Do whatever you wish! Just progress the thread. At some point you can decide if the efforts to befriend pay off and the Pokemon joins the player's party. - Feel 100% free to "husk" threads. That would be where you just post the battle-portion; what moves your Pokemon were hit by and what they used. In an effort not to bog down our mods with wild threads, don't feel expected to add any sort of in-character stuff to your post (how the Pokemon felt, if it said anything, what-have-you). You certainly can if you want to, but its entirely up to you as the mod. Each mod can have their own style, again. How they do things. But always know that you can leave the in-character stuff to the player.
- Once your spawn Pokemon is defeated and faints, you can prompt the player if they would like to capture the fainted Pokemon and if they would like to continue. Or if the Pokemon is befriended, if the player would like to continue. If they choose to continue, or successfully flee, just move on to the next encounter. The player can end a thread at any time, but the thread will automatically end once all five Pokeballs are used up.
- There is no need to use templates, but if you want to use a posting template or create your own, feel free to.
There is a five-encounter cycle to wild threads. This cycle will repeat until the thread is finished. One cycle must be completed before a character is allowed to dig for fossils in the Heart of Amaura.
